A man, previously reported missing, was rescued from a Clay County cave this past Saturday, as confirmed by the Clay County Emergency Management Agency (CCEMA). The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was located after being trapped for approximately two days, disoriented and possibly suffering from hypothermia.
Family members raised the alarm on Saturday, prompting a swift response from local emergency crews and the Clay County Sheriff's Office. According to a WSMV report, the man's vehicle was found near a narrow cave entrance on Weber Road. Inside, the man's calls for help echoed through the cavern, leading rescuers to his location.
It became a multi-county rescue operation, with specialized teams from the Putnam County Rescue Squad being called upon due to the uncharted position of the man inside the cave. In a WKRN news story, it was mentioned that the man had embarked on a routine exploration, but after his flashlight failed and he lost his spare, he became disoriented.
The complex rescue involved multiple agencies including Clay County EMS, Celina Fire Department, and Clay 911, among others, a fact echoed in a statement from the Clay County Emergency Management Agency on Facebook. The man was successfully extracted from the cave just past 4 p.m., highlighting the collaborative spirit and expertise of the emergency responders involved in the operation.
