A woman was fatally shot and her husband wounded on Christmas Day in Monroe, following a domestic incident that ended with police arresting a relative of the couple. The Monroe Police Department reported a call regarding a potential shooting at around 6 p.m. in the 400 block of Maple Lane, as stated by FOX 5 Atlanta. Officers discovered the woman deceased in an SUV, while her husband, having also been shot, was transported to a local hospital for treatment and has since been released.

Monroe Police Chief RV Watts identified the victims as Tyesha and Jermaul Colley. The suspect, later captured, was identified as 21-year-old Devin Sullivan, a family member of the victims. Efforts to swiftly resolve the situation allowed law enforcement to locate Sullivan without need to unduly escalate the arrest. "They were able to make entry into the apartment where the suspect was right there in the doorway, and we had a peaceful resolution, brought him into custody without any incidents," Chief Watts stated, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.

The incident happened on Maple Lane, though Sullivan was taken into custody in an apartment on Plaza Trace, a short distance from the crime scene. As captured by FOX 5 Atlanta cameras, Sullivan was led out of the building in handcuffs. He is currently being held at the Walton County Jail, facing charges of murder and aggravated assault, with the investigation ongoing.

In a statement to FOX 5 Atlanta, Chief Watts commended Sullivan's parents for their collaboration in trying to ensure nonviolent apprehension. "The mom and dad both did their best to help us bring this to a peaceful resolve. They were trying to communicate with the suspect through our PA systems, trying to get him to come out," he explained. Additionally, Atlanta News First noted that more charges might be pending as police ask community members with information to come forward to help establish the motive and further details of the incident.
