Morrison County's efforts to proactively ensure that registered predatory offenders comply with their conditions were put into the spotlight recently as Sheriff Shawn Larsen announced the completion of the annual verification process.
In what amounts to be a community safety protocol, the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office, along with local police departments, conducted verifications on 68 predatory offenders. The collaborative effort involved cross-checking addresses and compliance statuses to ostensibly maintain the registry’s integrity, according to information provided by the Morrison County official update. Predatory offenders who have served prison time post-January 1, 1997, are designated risk levels by the Department of Corrections, with Level 1 posing the least risk and Level 3 the highest risk for potential reoffence.
The breakdown of the recent checks revealed 20 Level 1, 8 Level 2, and 1 Level 3 offenders, alongside 39 not assigned a risk level. The Little Falls Police Department also checked 41 offenders, which are not included in this specific breakdown. Sheriff Larsen emphasized the hard work of law enforcement, noting, "It is extremely important that these people remain aware that we know who they are and our office will continue to hold them accountable." This statement was captured in the county's announcement.
While most offenders were found to be abiding by their requirements, one individual, 38-year-old Gerald Dean Bollig, is currently facing felony charges for failing to properly register his address. This rigorous checking process reflects a broader commitment to vigilance within the community by law enforcement to ensure that all necessary measures are being taken to guard the well-being of residents.
