In Mt. Juliet, a routine traffic stop escalated to a full-fledged DUI arrest when a 21-year-old driver from Jackson was pulled over due to a registration violation on Thursday; the ensuing interaction with the Mt. Juliet Police Department (MJPD) officers revealed the driver to be intoxicated.
The MJPD officers, engaged in Operation Safe Shopper, a patrol initiative aimed at ensuring public safety during the holiday shopping season, initially stopped the vehicle for sporting the incorrect license plates but later discovered that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and further in possession of a Schedule VI drug and an unlawful handgun, according to the report by WSMV and additional details from a WKRN article. This was not the only incident of the day as another officer from the unit booked a 47-year-old Nashville man for probation violations and another 43-year-old on various charges, as they continued their patrol.
A social media post by the MJPD echoed the sentiments of the department, with the officers expressing pride in their dedication to keeping the community safe; "We're proud of our officers' dedication to keeping Mt. Juliet safe, especially during the busy holiday season," the post highlighted the success of their ongoing operation, as seen on the Mt. Juliet Police Department's social profile.

The individuals arrested during these incidents are facing multiple charges, not the least of which is driving under the influence, a grave infraction with potentially deadly consequences that the MJPD takes seriously, especially during times when the streets are crowded with holiday shoppers.
