A tragic sequence of events on a Nashville interstate has culminated with the death of a young man, local authorities have confirmed. De’ Angelo Black, a 20-year-old from Nashville, was fatally shot while seated in the rear of a Saturn Ion sedan on I-24 near the Sillman Evans Bridge yesterday afternoon, according to a press release from the Nashville Police Department.
Before the heartbreaking incident unfolded on the freeway, it appears an altercation of some sort took place at a gas station/market in North Nashville. The individuals involved then carried their dispute onto the road. The occupants of the Saturn, which included Black, noticed the other vehicle following them as they merged onto I-24 from I-40, moments before shots rang out and struck Black. The car he was in hastily exited the interstate on Shelby Avenue, where they were met by an officer on traffic duty, who administered aid until Black was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he subsequently passed away.
Nashville's Homicide Unit is actively investigating what led to the young man's untimely death. In a development during the night, the car believed to be involved in the shooting was found empty at a North Nashville apartment complex. As stated in the press release, "The investigation by the Homicide Unit is continuing." No arrests have been made at this time, but the search for the shooter, or shooters, presses on.
Details about the motives and identities of others involved are still scarce. Police have not released further information about the incident or the suspects at large. Authorities urging anyone with information to come forward.
