A Nashville woman has been placed under arrest in connection with a fatal car crash that occurred earlier this year, ultimately taking the life of another local resident. Shynithia L. Stone, 36, faces charges of vehicular homicide by recklessness, stemming from the August collision that killed 46-year-old Tamika Petway.
The crash investigation, conducted by the local authorities, revealed that on August 23, Stone, while driving an Infiniti QX60 SUV, failed to adhere to the stop sign at the intersection of Ewing and Gwynnwood Drives. Cruising at speeds ranging from 47 to 52 mph in a 30 mph zone, she subsequently struck the Chevrolet Camaro operated by Petway, as per Nashville.gov. Taken with non-critical injuries from the scene was Stone, while Petway's condition, despite being rushed to Skyline Medical Center, proved fatal.
Details from the event data recorder onboard the SUV implicated in the crash verified the excessive speed Stone was traveling just before the impact occurred. These findings were crucial to the case and ultimately led to Stone's arrest and specific charges. Stone is currently holding a $76,000 bond while awaiting further legal proceedings.
