Warren Murphy III, a local DJ known professionally as "DJ Hardhead," surrendered to New Orleans Police on Wednesday, Dec. 11, in response to a warrant for his arrest on a first-degree rape charge. News outlets report that the arrest is part of a "lengthy investigation" by the New Orleans Police Department Sex Crimes Unit related to an incident that occurred earlier this year, according to WGNO.
Murphy had previously been taken into custody on separate allegations in October, facing three counts of domestic abuse battery and one of domestic abuse aggravated assault. His ex-girlfriend had accused him of assaulting her and threatening her with a gun in July. The U.S. Marshals Task Force was also involved to quickly locate and securely apprehend Murphy, as per WWLTV.
As per WWLTV, Murphy was booked into the Orleans Justice Center, but details concerning the rape allegation are limited. Meanwhile, FOX 8 Live has stated that Murphy's bond had previously been set at $18,500 following the assault charges, and he was ordered both to wear an ankle monitor and to surrender his firearms as part of his bond conditions. It's alleged that earlier this month, Murphy failed to adhere to these conditions.
The New Orleans Police Department has urged anyone with further information to come forward and contact the New Orleans Police Department Special Victims Section. The number to reach this department is (504) 658-5523, as reported by WGNO. With ongoing investigations, the landscape of the case has begun to slowly evolve, drawing a clearer picture of the allegations against Murphy.
