The recent arrest in New Orleans has led to the apprehension of a mother in connection with a double homicide that seized the city with grief and disbelief. Ashley Gray, 40, was taken into custody on charges of being an accessory after the fact to second-degree murder, as reported by WGNO. This comes in the wake of the arrest of her son, 19-year-old Curtis Gray, who is accused of the fatal shootings of two young men during a community second line parade.
According to the FOX 8 Live report, the incident that occurred on November 17 during the Nine Times second line parade, resulted in the deaths of Rasean Carter, 21, and Malachi Jackson, 19. The New Orleans Police Department claims the firearm used in the crime was registered to Ashley Gray, and shell casings from the scene matched the firearm, which had been previously returned to Gray in 2023. Ashley Gray, a convicted felon herself, was on a probation for an aggravated battery conviction at the time of the shooting.
Her arrest was made at her River Ridge apartment at precisely 12:20 p.m. without incident, as detailed by NOLA.com. The double homicide case, which left the St. Roch community in sorrow, had previsouly led to the arrest of Curtis Gray on December 6 at the same River Ridge residence, where he was charged with two counts of second-degree murder.
No further details have been disclosed by the New Orleans Police Department regarding the involvement of Ashley Gray in the aftermath of the homicides. Anyone with information on the shooting is currently encouraged to contact the New Orleans Police Department Homicide Section.
