The city of New Orleans endured a surge in gun violence over the past weekend with two separate shootings occurred last night, according to reports from local authorities. The New Orleans Police Department is currently investigating these incidents which left one man dead and another injured. In the first reported incident, a 21-year-old male victim was confirmed to have arrived at a local hospital before 7:50 p.m. with multiple gunshot wounds. The shooting is believed to have occurred in the 7000 block of Crowder Boulevard in New Orleans East, as WWLTV details. The man is currently reported to be in stable condition.
Less than an hour later, another man was found unresponsive on the 2100 block of Louisiana Avenue at around 8:25 p.m. This second man was pronounced dead at the scene, having suffered what Emergency Medical Services believe to likely be a gunshot wound. The identity of the man, as well as information on a potential suspect, have not yet been released. "Officers responded to a report of a 'man down' and found the victim unresponsive," stated the New Orleans Police Department, as reported by WWLTV. This fatality is part of a violent weekend in the city that included several other gun-related incidents and marked the fourth homicide over the same period.
On Saturday, the city witnessed multiple shootings, with two men killed in West Lake Forest and a child fatally shot in Central City late at night. Additionally, two separate shootings injured individuals in the French Quarter area, one on Bourbon Street and another on Canal Street, as covered by FOX8. With these events, the weekend left a trail of grief and urgent questions about the city's challenge with firearm violence.
