New Orleans is set to spice up the streets with the Earhart Food Truck Plaza, a place for locals and visitors to enjoy a variety of culinary treats on Earhart Boulevard, near Magnolia Street and South Claiborne Avenue. The plaza will host eight food truck vendors and comes as a result of the city recognizing the need to enhance the area's functionality and appeal for both customers and business owners.
Mayor LaToya Cantrell spoke about the initiative, stating in a City of New Orleans' announcement, "My Administration is in lockstep with the community's needs and saw an opportunity to make this intersection more functional and aesthetically pleasing for food truck vendors," and she added, "Our food truck proprietors have made this location special to the City of New Orleans by setting up their trucks despite previous conditions, I am excited about what this project will do for our small businesses and our city as a whole." The site aims not just to draw food lovers, but also to alleviate flooding issues and back small, ethnically varied businesses with its design.
While chowing down on local snacks, visitors can bask in the cultural flair provided by mural paintings, bench seating, and thorough landscaping. The Arts Council is shedding a creative light on the plaza's underpass with murals, contributing to the congenial atmosphere.
Eager to be ready for the bustling Super Bowl LIX and Mardi Gras scenes the plaza offers a place for tailgaters and revelers, alike to enjoy festivities surrounded by local flavors. Not just a spot to grab a bite, the plaza will feature parking options, including space for bicycles and improvements like ADA compliant sidewalk ramps ensuring accessibility for all, further the Earhart Food Truck Plaza is designed to be a communal nucleus, especially during key events hosted in neighboring venues such as the Ceasars Superdome and the Smoothie King Center.
This $2.1 million beautification and infrastructure project, funded by City bonds, is nearly at the finish line with designs from Pivotal Engineering, LLC., and construction by TEH Enterprise, LLC. The community is invited to revel in, support, and witness the culinary and cultural blossoming at the plaza in time for the highly anticipated Super Bowl LIX.
