At the height of the holiday season, an unforeseen event occurred at the Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) this morning. A passenger's firearm accidentally discharged in a terminal, and fortunately, as reported by a spokesperson for the airport, no injuries or damages resulted.
During the routine process of checking luggage and declaring the presence of a firearm to the airline, the gun went off, which led to airport police responding to the call. While the situation was quickly handled with the passenger, details about any disciplinary actions taken have not been shared, like in the WLWT report. Precisely at a time when AAA projects that a whopping 119 million Americans are set to travel for the holiday period, airports like CVG preparing for an average of 30,000 daily travelers, fostering a total of 427,000 passengers until early January, Thursday and Friday expected to bear the lion's share of this travel congestion.
Mindy Kershner, a CVG official, confirmed that no damage was done within the terminal and reiterated that the passenger notified the airline of the firearm, which typically precedes a check-in process for luggage containing weapons, reported by FOX19.
A spokesperson from CVG over at WCPO gave a similar account, stating that the gun was discharged unintentionally in the terminal as the luggage was awaiting the check. However, the spokesperson for CVG stressed there were no injuries and no damage reported as a result of the incident.
