As the festive season approaches, residents of Norman should be aware of upcoming closures for city administrative offices during the Christmas and New Year's holidays. According to the City of Norman official website, offices will be closed on December 24 and 25 for Christmas, reopening on December 26. A similar closure is scheduled for New Year's Day, with offices reopening on January 2.
For those looking to dispose of holiday waste, the Solid Waste Division will adjust its services. The City of Norman announcement states that trash and recycling pickup will be delayed for customers with regular service on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday due to the Christmas holiday. Similar adjustments will apply for New Year's, with pickups occurring a day later than usual. Additionally, the Transfer Station and Compost Facility will be closed on the holidays but will maintain regular hours throughout the rest of the weeks.
The City of Norman outlines the specifics for other services affected by the holiday schedule. This includes no operations for EMBARK Norman public transportation and Norman Animal Welfare on Christmas and New Year's Day, although Norman On-Demand will continue its services on Christmas.
To accommodate excess holiday trash, Norman's Solid Waste Division will offer special pick-ups from December 26 to December 30 following Christmas and from January 2 to January 6 after New Year's Day. Live Christmas trees will be accepted during regular yard waste pickups, but must be stripped of decorations and halved if over 6 feet in length. City recreation centers will be closed on December 24, 25, and January 1, though Westwood Golf will have a modified schedule on Christmas Eve.
