A police shooting in north Phoenix has left 55-year-old Abraham Hermosillo hospitalized following a late-night domestic violence call. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the incident took place near 21st Street and Union Hills Drive when officers responded to a situation where Hermosillo was allegedly arguing with a family member.

The situation escalated after police, who were already informed that the man had an outstanding warrant, arrived to find Hermosillo armed with two knives. "While enroute, officers discovered the man had an outstanding warrant. When the officers arrived, a man and a woman told officers the suspect, 55-year-old Abraham Hermosillo, was inside the home and armed with a knife," per the statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix. Despite several commands to drop the knives, Hermosillo reportedly moved toward the living room while still armed, prompting one of the officers to fire his weapon.

Following the shooting, Hermosillo was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. An investigation remains ongoing. The suspect is accused of multiple felonies, but details on the charges have not been disclosed. "Officers moved up after Hermosillo dropped the knives and began giving him directions to put his hands behind his back. Hermosillo did not respond to officers’ commands, so a less-lethal tool was used, and Hermosillo was taken into custody," mentioned the officials in their account of the event, reported by FOX 10 Phoenix.

This incident marks the 52nd officer-involved shooting in Maricopa County in 2024, and the 87th overall in Arizona, as noted by AZFamily. In the aftermath, some neighborhood residents reported being unaware of the shooting. Hermosillo has been released from the hospital, and is being interviewed by detectives, with plans for him to be booked on multiple felony charges. No officers were injured during the incident.
