These hoaxes, which appeared to fully be a part of a coordinated nationwide effort, prompted substantial police presence and precautionary measures despite no credible danger being identified. OKC FOX reports that campuses were swept by police, with lockdowns lifted once safety was ensured.
In response to the tense situation, Moore Public Schools released a statement to families, "The MHS campus is on lockdownafter administration received an anonymous threat. No one is injured. Families cannot approach the campus until the police finish sweeping the facility." They further clarified that the threat seemed to be part of a nationwide hoax. Meanwhile, News9 noted that threats were identified as hoaxes by local police departments across the state, with some originating from international locations, according to IP address investigations.
The emotional toll of these hoaxes on students and parents alike was significant. Alisha Coulter, a parent of an 11th-grader at Moore High School, shared her experience with News on 6. She expressed the fear and anxiety that spread throughout the school community, highlighting, "The kids, you know, they’re the ones that have to lock down and go in the corners and hide in the closet. So, you know it's pretty intense for them. Their emotions are high and anxiety is high."
Despite the determination that the threats were not credible, schools such as Mustang High School did not hesitate to take additional precautions. "While there is no credible threat to Mustang High School, we are taking additional safety precautions, including increased police presence at MHS and additional patrols in the area," informed Mustang Public Schools in a message to parents, cited by News9.
Law enforcement agencies at the local, state, and federal levels continue to actively investigate the origins of these hoax threats. Schools are collaborating with police to ensure safety protocols are effective and that any possible threats are thoroughly assessed.
