The office of Attorney General Gentner Drummond has infused all Oklahoma sheriff offices with a substantial financial boost. A total of $18 million in grants have been distributed across the Sooner State as a part of a new initiative to bolster law enforcement services. Each of the 77 counties is seeing a share of the fund, with grant amounts ranging between $150,000 and $300,000.
In an effort to upgrade the capabilities of sheriff's offices, the grants are designed to cover a variety of operational aspects. From training stakes to advancements in technology and equipment, sheriff departments will see a series of improvements. Funds are also earmarked for capital improvements and stipends, as well as other necessary expenditures. These changes come on the heels of a legislative push, spearheaded by House Bill 2914, unifying under the common cause of enhancing public services.
Attorney General Drummond lauded the statewide impact of these grants, voicing belief in the positive changes afoot. In a statement obtained by the official website of the Oklahoma Attorney General's Office, Drummond stated, "These grants will help strengthen public safety for all Oklahomans." He further acknowledged the role of the Oklahoma Sheriffs’ Association and county sheriff offices in ensuring that statewide support was secured and distributed accordingly.
