A tragic incident unfolded yesterday morning in West Palm Beach leading to one man's death and leaving another in critical condition after a collision ejected both from their box truck. The West Palm Beach Police Department (WPBPD) reported that the crash occurred when a 2019 Isuzu truck drove into the path of a northbound GMC Yukon SUV on the intersection of East Summa Street and South Dixie Highway, as mentioned by WPTV.
The collision was so forceful that both the driver and passenger of a Isuzu were ejected, with neither wearing seatbelts at the time of impact. This detail was confirmed through a statement obtained by WPTV. The SUV's driver was reported to have not sustained injuries. The area around the 7300 block of South Dixie Highway was closed for several hours following the accident as authorities conducted their investigation, which has since concluded, enabling the highway's reopening.
Authorities identified the deceased victim as 24-year-old Gaspar Lopez Hernandez from Indiantown. The driver of the Isuzu has been identified as 27-year-old Oliver Lizandro Mateo Rodriguez, who is currently listed in critical condition at St. Mary's Medical Center. CBS12 News reported that Traffic Homicide Unit detectives determined that the GMC had the right-of-way when the collision occurred.
No charges are pending in relation to the crash, according to WPBPD. The involvement of Robert Guerrero Reyes, the 37-year-old driver of the GMC Yukon from Lake Worth, has not led to any criminal charges. Both men involved in the accident were also residents of Indiantown.
