Tragedy struck the Woodlawn community in Montgomery County yesterday morning when a fire claimed the life of one individual and left another hospitalized. According to WSMV, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) reported that deputies and emergency services were dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of Calvert Drive, where two occupants were trapped inside a burning home.

Upon arrival, two deputies attempted to swiftly rescue both individuals. While one was successful in escaping the flames, the second occupant did not make it out alive. The MCSO, as WKRN disclosed, has not released the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin. One of the first responders was later taken to a local hospital for further evaluation after being assessed for heat exposure and smoke inhalation on the scene.

The MCSO, along with the Montgomery County Fire Service and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, have begun to thoroughly investigate the cause of the fire. This was confirmed by FOX17, who reported that the fire broke out just outside city limits.

Officials have not yet released additional information as they continue their investigation into the cause of the blaze that engulfed the home.
