Hawai'i Island has been rocked by an incident involving gunshots and terroristic threatening. Police in Pāhoa responded on December 11 to multiple reports of gunfire and distress emanating from a residence on Pearl Drive in the Ainaloa Subdivision. There, they encountered a domestic situation that quickly escalated. Sione Siupeli Siale, a 36-year-old resident of the area, has since been detained and charged with a series of serious offenses. Siale was taken into custody on scene, as per an official report by the Hawai'i Island Police.
According to the police report, "Siale exited the residence and discharged several rounds from a handgun and threatened to shoot and kill his ex-in-laws.” These actions led to his arrest and subsequent charges, which include two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening and first-degree reckless endangering. It was later discovered that the accused is also prohibited from owning or possessing any firearms and/or ammunition.
The investigation into the incident continued with Area I Juvenile Aid Section detectives securing a search warrant for the residence in order to document the scene and recover evidence. The inquiry confirmed that Siale's interaction with firearms was, in fact, illegal. Following a consultation with Hawai'i County Prosecutors, detectives charged Siale last Friday morning with the offenses aforementioned. Following his arrest, Siale’s bail was set at $110,000.
The police have extended a call to action to anyone with further information related to this case, asking them to contact Acting Detective Corey Kaneko of the Area I Juvenile Aid Section. This can be done by phone at (808) 961-8843 or via email at [email protected].
