A Parkland teen, previously reported as missing, has been found dead in Coral Springs in what authorities describe as an apparent suicide. The student from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, identified by Broward County Public Schools as an eleventh-grader, was discovered in the 9500 block of Westview Drive, according to information provided by the Coral Springs Police. The details surrounding the death suggest a self-inflicted injury, though a police spokesman declined to disclose additional information on the matter.
In the wake of this tragedy, the community in Parkland has activated its networks of care and support. Friends and neighbors of the bereaved family have initiated a GoFundMe campaign to aid with the funeral expenses and to compensate for the lost wages during the family’s period of mourning. Launched with the intention to support the family, these efforts have already surfaced on local news outlets, with BocaNewsNow.com publishing the call to action.
The teen, recognized by friends as Maxim Georgiev, was a standout student and athlete at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, known for excellent academic standing, as well as his prowess as a swimmer. "Our dear neighbors just lost their beautiful son and brother, Maxim, who was only 16 years old. Max was a brilliant, talented, and kind-hearted boy. He enjoyed snowboarding and was an excellent pianist and swimmer. He excelled in school and was on the swim team at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida," said the GoFundMe campaign description in a statement obtained by BocaNewsNow.com.
MSD Principal Michelle Kefford communicated the solemn news to the student families in an email and acknowledged the provision of grief counselors on campus for those struggling with the loss, as found in information from ParklandTalk.com. "While I cannot share specific details, I want you to know we remain in close communication with the student's family and will do everything we can to provide support as they cope with this unimaginable loss," Kefford wrote.
For continued support, the school's administration has made it clear that help is available, urging anyone with questions or in need of assistance to reach out by contacting MSD at the provided phone number. Furthermore, the Coral Springs Police and the Broward Sheriff's Office continue their investigations into the circumstances of the discovery of Maxim's body.
