Pembroke Pines is getting greener with the new Flamingo Greenway Project set to bring some much needed recreational space and connectivity to Broward County's outdoor areas. This project, officially beginning construction on Monday, will grace the west side of Flamingo Road and the Snake Creek Canal with a one-mile segment of greenway between Pembroke Road and Pines Boulevard, near C.B. Smith Park. According to a Broward County announcement, the project aims to be wrapped up by March 2026, unless nature or fate decide otherwise.
A greenway is a 12-foot-wide path for walking, jogging, or cycling, surrounded by new landscaping, signage, and shelters with benches and trash bins. The Flamingo Greenway, funded by the gas tax, offers Pembroke Pines residents a chance to enjoy the outdoors without draining the community's budget. The grand plan is for this stretch to eventually become part of a 9.3-mile greenway ribbon, connecting the existing New River Greenway and Hiatus Greenway down south to where Broward meets Miami-Dade, as per Broward County news release.
The Public Works Department's Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division is the head behind this operation, steering the project towards its completion. For questions or more details about the project's progress, reach out to Project Manager Felix Garcia at 954-299-9956 or via email at [email protected]. For general inquiries, the division is available at 954-357-6040.
Broward County is urging patience as construction begins in Pembroke Pines. With heavy machinery and crews now on-site, expect delays in the daily commute. However, the County emphasizes that the project is an investment in residents' quality of life, creating a space for families and friends to enjoy on foot or by bike.
