Peoria is hosting its 17th annual Winter Water Safety Day and Polar Plunge event, geared towards promoting water safety even as the temperatures dip. Set for Saturday, January 4, 2025, participants are invited to immerse themselves in the mid-40s waters of Centennial Pool located at 8081 W. Acoma Drive from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Bravery, it seems, will be served with a free t-shirt to commemorate the icy feat and a warm breakfast courtesy of the Peoria Firefighters Charity, according to the City of Peoria.
With the pool unheated since November, swimmers should brace for a chilly morning dip at the upcoming community event. Emphasizing the value of swimming lessons, the event suggests a $28 donation—the cost of sponsoring a child's lesson during summer, as per the City of Peoria.
