Starting Monday, a significant road work initiative is kicking off in Pima County, intended to keep the local thoroughfares in fighting shape. The Pima County Department of Transportation, along with contractor Sunland Asphalt & Construction, LLC, will be rolling out crack seal treatments at several locations throughout the county as part of their Road Pavement Repair and Preservation Program. These efforts, vital to maintaining the infrastructure, are slated to take place from 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. until Monday, December 16, according to a statement on the Pima County Newsroom.

For the drivers who regularly traverse these routes, it's time to prepare for possible delays and lane closures. As the work areas are understandably limited, traffic control measures will be in full effect, forcing certain turn movements within the project limits to be restricted.

Due to the inherent uncertainties of road work, particularly those caused by weather or mechanical failure, the construction schedule could change at a moment's notice. It's a small inconvenience for the greater good of smoother, more dependable roads. This overhaul is part of a larger investment by the Pima County Board of Supervisors and Transportation Department, which allocated a hefty $24 million in road repair and preservation funding for the upcoming Fiscal Year 2024/2025. Those interested in the particularities of the program or scheduled projects can learn more by visiting the county's Road Pavement Repair & Preservation Program page.
