In Pima County, a familiar refrain echoed ahead of the holiday season, focusing on the economic lifeblood of the community: local small businesses. Pima County Small Business Commission Chair Janay Arenas stood before the Board of Supervisors, sharing a passionate plea for public support of local commerce. During her address, which marked the celebration of Small Business on November 30, Arenas highlighted the profound impact that patronizing local establishments has on neighborhoods and the larger economy.
According to the official proclamation from the Pima County Board of Supervisors, the declaration aims to encourage people to consciously choose to support locally owned businesses. Arenas took the opportunity to personally vouch for the resilience of these enterprises. "Each small business has a story, a family, and a vision," Arenas said. Her message was clear: every time consumers shop locally, they’re actively contributing to the community's distinctive character and economic sustainability.
"When you choose local, you’re doing more than just making a purchase—you’re contributing to the tapestry that makes our community unique," Arenas asserted, aiming to emphasize how also creating jobs and preserving local economies are tied directly to the success of these small businesses. The call to action was simple yet resonant: to authentically thank and support those entrepreneurs working tirelessly to serve and enhance the community. "So, let’s take a moment today to say thank you," she implored, as stated by Pima County.
Arenas' concluding remarks drove home the message of unity and commitment towards local businesses that persists well beyond a single Saturday. Her concluding encouragement: "Together, we can create a future where these businesses continue to thrive, bringing innovation, passion, and personal service to us all," Pima County noted.
