Recognized for its excellence, the Port has received two prestigious awards from major industry organizations, highlighting its strides in workplace equity and engagement with local youth and minority communities.
The American Council of Engineering Companies of California's Bay Bridge Chapter bestowed upon the Port of Oakland the Engineering Excellence Client/Agency of the Year Award for 2024. The recognition is a testament to the Port's exceptional support, which included hosting a tour for ACEC members and putting forth a significant event to inspire local youth. "We deeply appreciate receiving the award for the event we hosted with Girls Inc. at OAK Airport," said Emilia Sánchez, Port of Oakland Director of Engineering, as per Port of Oakland. The noted ‘Summer Girls Summit: Girls in Motion’ event aimed to quickly bolster the aspirations of over 30 high school girls, encouraging them to explore transportation and STEM careers.
Moreover, the Port secured the 2024 Public Agency of the Year from the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) in Northern California. The accolade was announced during COMTO's Annual Scholarship and Industry Awards Gala, acknowledging the Port's commitment to equitable practices and support for diverse businesses and local workers.
"It’s a great honor to receive this award. The Port of Oakland is deeply committed to equitable workplace practices that support the diverse workforce in our region," Matt Davis, Chief Public Engagement Officer at the Port of Oakland, told Port of Oakland. Strategic partnerships like the one with COMTO are a critical facet of the Port's efforts to expand access and participation across the transportation and logistics sectors, striving to build up a competent, inclusive, and representative industrial landscape.
