Portillo's, the renowned Chicago-based eatery known for its indulgent hot dogs and Italian beef sandwiches, is gearing up to expand its footprint in Arizona with a new location in Chandler. Planned to sit conveniently near the nexus of I-10 and Ray Road, this incoming restaurant is set to mark the brand's ninth venture in the state.
According to a news release reported by ABC15, the Chandler location is being developed as a model for what Portillo's envisions as their "Restaurant of the Future." This future-forward design includes ample seating for up to 160 diners and the convenience of a double drive-thru.
Further details shared by Phoenix New Times reveal that the establishment will span 6,250 square feet. More than just a spot for a quick meal, the venue will also include pick-up shelves and a grab-and-go section, offering customers various options to enjoy their Portillo's favorites.
“Phoenix has been a great, welcoming market for Portillo’s as we continue our expansion in Arizona,” Portillo’s CEO Michael Osanloo told the Phoenix New Times. Reflecting enthusiasm for the new location, he added, “We’ve loved serving the Phoenix community our unrivaled Chicago street food, and we’re excited to provide even greater convenience to our guests in the Grand Canyon State with this newest restaurant in Chandler.” While the opening is highly anticipated, the exact date for when customers can start lining up has not been confirmed, with the grand opening scheduled for 2025.
Portillo's has expanded its presence in Arizona with locations in Avondale, Gilbert, Glendale, Queen Creek, Scottsdale, Surprise, Tempe, and Tucson. The upcoming Chandler location will be part of the chain’s growing network, which includes over 90 locations across 10 states, offering Chicago-style cuisine such as Italian beef sandwiches.
