On December 11, a North Portland convenience store incident resulted in the death of Matthew G. Greer, 43, who had been a suspect in an assault case. Greer reportedly struck and cut a 19-year-old acquaintance during an altercation. In an unusual turn, the teenager retaliated by throwing a battery-powered leaf blower, hitting Greer in the back, according to FOX 12.
Greer collapsed two blocks away, and Portland Police responded at 10:05 p.m., finding him still alive. Officers Clark and Walsh tried to assist Greer by helping him sit up, but he lay back down. As his condition worsened, the officers handcuffed him and attempted to help him breathe, as per KGW.
The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) has released body-camera footage of the incident. Officers Clark and Walsh, who were placed on administrative leave, have since returned to duty. The cause of Greer’s death remains under investigation, pending toxicology results, while the District Attorney’s office reviews the case, as cited by FOX 12.
