Law enforcement officials are turning to the public for assistance in identifying a man involved in a downtown stabbing incident. According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the suspect is wanted for his connection to an attack that occurred early morning on December 6, Friday, in the 800 block of Hadley.

The encounter between the suspect and the 43-year-old victim started with what seemed like a harmless request — the suspect asked for a lighter. While the victim was looking for the lighter, police said "the suspect stabbed him in the back and then fled from the scene." The victim, wounded, was subsequently hospitalized for his injuries as the attacker disappeared into the urban landscape.

The Fourth District Detectives have released photos of the individual believed to be responsible. The images show a male with a distinct gray and white beard. In the photos, he is wearing a black leather jacket over a blue hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and black and white Nike footwear. Completing his attire that day was a white mask and sunglasses, and he was carrying a black backpack.

Anyone who may recognize the suspect or has any pertinent information is urged to come forward. The investigation is ongoing, and the police have not yet indicated a motive or whether the victim and assailant were previously acquainted.
