A 28-year-old man from Pullman is now in critical condition after being shot early Thursday morning near Washington State University's Greek Row, as confirmed by local authorities. According to KIRO 7, the shooting took place just after 3:00 a.m. on Northeast California Street when Pullman police responded to the scene to find the man unresponsive.
The Pullman Police Department has yet to apprehend any suspects in the case and they stated that the incident seems to be an isolated one, the victim, whose identity has not been released, was transported to the hospital and remains in critical condition; the police are still actively searching for the shooter, as they sift through evidence and possible leads. "With the Christmas Break being in place, the majority of WSU students are away for the holiday and there are fewer people here, which actually helps our job right now," Pullman Police Department Operations Commander Aaron Breshears commented, which was reported by KXLY.
While the fear of a threat to public safety often accompanies such incidents, the police have sought to reassure the citizens of Pullman, according to FOX 13 Seattle, noting, "It's believed that this was an isolated incident, and there is no known threat to the public" even as the assailant remains at large, this assurance does not diminish the severity of the crime nor the pressing urgency that the Pullman Police Department is treating this active case with regular updates are expected as new information arises.
As the investigation continues, the Pullman Police Department is calling upon the community for assistance. They have asked anyone in the vicinity with surveillance cameras or additional information to come forward and help in the inquiry trying to piece together the events that led to the man's critical injuries.
