Queen Creek residents now have a little more room to roam, bike, and trot with the official opening of the Queen Creek Wash Trail extension. Stretching from Crismon to Rittenhouse Road, the new path adds a welcome stretch of asphalt for pedestrians and cyclers and includes ramps catering to equestrian users. Queen Creek Mayor, Julia Wheatley, celebrated the occasion, "Our wash trail system is so important to our community," said Wheatley, according to a statement. "It provides a beautiful place for our residents to get outside and recreate, a safe alternative way to get around town and is an opportunity to preserve some of our equestrian heritage! And this project brings us one step closer to our goal of having a complete trail loop."
The project also includes a half-mile section heading south along Signal Butte. Connected, this will soon tie the Queen Creek and Sonoqui wash trails together, knitting the community closer through shared greenways.
With the new trail section open, the Queen Creek Police Department (QCPD) is doubling down on user safety. While enjoying the scenic routes, residents are reminded to keep alert and act responsibly. The QCPD advises not to hit the paths solo, to keep to well-lit areas, to stay aware of surroundings, and to always keep pets on a leash. For those with a penchant for two-wheel or motorized devices, remember that wheels yield to heels, and everyone yells to horses. A full rundown of tips and permitted devices can be found on Queen Creek's official trails webpage.
Meanwhile, along with inaugurating the trail, local officials are aware of the rules. Bikes are welcome such as Class 1 and 2 electric bikes, but the Class 3 versions are a big no-no alongside other motorized vehicles. Residents spotting suspicious behavior or non-compliant devices can hit up QCPD's non-emergency line, while emergencies should go straight to 9-1-1.
