Phoenix started Friday under partly cloudy skies near 97°F, but there will be no meaningful break from the heat yet. The city is forecast to reach 111°F, with an Extreme Heat Warning continuing through 8 p.m. Saturday.
Friday Stays Dangerously Hot
Mostly sunny skies will take over through the afternoon as temperatures climb to 111°F, with heat index values also reaching 111. The National Weather Service in Phoenix says afternoon temperatures across the metro area will run from 107°F to 113°F, with major to extreme heat risk in place. Winds should remain generally light, but the heat alone will make outdoor activity hazardous.
Storm Chances Build This Weekend
Friday night brings a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., with a 20% chance of rain. Saturday will still be hot, topping out near 108°F with heat index values up to 110, but storm chances rise after 4 p.m. and reach 50% Saturday night. The timing is a sharper weekend turn from the heat-focused forecast covered in Hoodline’s previous update.
Sunday Brings The Biggest Weather Shift
Sunday looks like the most active day, with a high near 104°F and a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms from morning into the evening. Forecasters say storms could bring strong wind gusts, blowing dust, heavy rain and localized flooding, with some activity potentially becoming severe. Monday remains unsettled with a high near 101°F and a 40% storm chance before sunnier, drier weather returns Tuesday.
Heat Safety Still Matters
Residents should limit strenuous outdoor activity, drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks in shade or air conditioning while the warning remains in effect. Maricopa County says people who need a cool place, water or transportation help can call 2-1-1 to find heat relief sites. Anyone showing signs of heat stroke should be moved to a cool place and treated as an emergency by calling 911.
