As the winter chill continues to grip Salt Lake, Utah, residents are looking ahead to a sunny day with widespread haze, as reported by the National Weather Service (NWS). With a high near 52 degrees today and a calm wind turning northwest, the haze is expected to persist, limiting visibility to some extent. The last update from the NWS came in early at 6:54 AM MST, detailing the current clear skies and 28°F temperature, with a humidity seated comfortably at 92%.
Tonight, the haze is set to continue under mostly clear skies, and the low is gently forecasted to drop to around 33 degrees. The weekend doesn't seem to promise any drastic changes, with Saturday also forecasted to be sunny coupled with a high near 53 degrees and a light southwest breeze picking up in the afternoon. As per the National Weather Service, the pattern is dominated by calm winds and increasingly cloudy nights as we inch closer to the holiday week.
The outlook for Sunday and into the week anticipates cloudy skies with highs lingering near 50 degrees. However, the NWS hints at a changing pattern, with a 30 percent chance of rain entering the forecast by Sunday night. Rain probabilities escalate to 50 percent by Monday, marking a notably moist start to the Christmas week. The city is to expect partly cloudy skies as we head into Tuesday with the daytime high around 51 degrees.
For those dreaming of a white Christmas, the weather gods might just be obliging. While Christmas Day in Salt Lake is forecasted to be mostly cloudy with a high near 42 degrees, there's a tantalizing chance of rain and snow both on Christmas Day and the following Thursday. So while there's no guarantee of waking up to a blanket of snow, the possibility is certainly on the table, with nighttime temperatures on Wednesday expected to drop down to around 27 degrees.
