During a routine traffic stop, a Salt Lake City Police Department Motor Squad officer made an arrest after discovering a cache of illegal drugs. The incident took place on Thursday evening in the Sugar House neighborhood, where a 27-year-old man was pulled over for speeding and consequently booked on multiple charges.
The traffic stop occurred just after 8 p.m. near the intersection of 1100 East and 2100 South. The SLCPD officer, part of a squad trained extensively to ensure road safety, was to quickly identify drug paraphernalia in the vehicle's back seat. Following the discovery, the driver, identified as Santos Paulino Cruz Galindo, was found in possession of heroin, cocaine, fentanyl pills, and a sum of money close to $2,000. According to SLCPD, some of the contraband had been concealed in Galindo's underwear.
Galindo now faces charges including possession with intent to distribute, which implies a heavier weight on the legal scale due to the compounding factors of reckless driving and operating without a valid driver's license. Moreover, the questionable authenticity of his identification, which bore no record in the state's management system, complicates Galindo's situation further. It must be noted that these allegations hold Galindo presumed innocent until proven guilty in the court of law, as per the principles of due process.
