Incidents of mailbox thefts near Loop 1604 and South Zarzamora Street sparked concern within the community, and beyond. The story, viewed 67,000 times after being posted on Aug. 2, showed perpetrators using master mailbox keys to pilfer letters and packages, a crime that, according to the U.S. Postal Service, has been on the rise nationwide. The brazen act of theft resonated with many, symbolizing a breach of personal boundaries and trust, as per Internewscast.
On Aug. 6, another personal tragedy unfolded as San Antonio police reported that Woodrow Thomas, Jr. accidentally shot and killed himself with his own gun while taking out the trash— a misfortune that prompted around 72,000 views on Instagram. In a more orchestrated crime, Bexar County sheriff’s deputies arrested Alicia Dominguez Garcia and Isaac Mendez Martinez on Oct. 4, recovering a large stash of methamphetamine, cocaine, and cash from Mendez-Martinez's residence following a traffic stop. The news of the bust attracted about 76,000 views, placing the story in third place for the year's most clicked events, as stated by KSAT.
The untimely death of 4-year-old Zayden Francis, who was struck by a car after wandering to a playground alone, gripped the city's heart, translating into 77,000 concerned clicks. The most attention-grabbing event, however, featured the so-called "high-five robbers," a couple who performed a celebratory gesture after robbing an elderly local named Jose Santos Hernandez, 86. This story not only led to the arrest of the 47-year-old suspect Adriana Dolores Garza but also peaked with more than 200,000 views, as shown in the follow-up video that attracted an additional 18,000 views, as reported by KSAT.
Other notable incidents granted 'honorable mentions' status included the mysterious disappearance of Suzanne Simpson from Olmos Park, which garnered over 100,000 clicks. Moreover, two separate incidents of women found in perilous situations—one narrowly escaping being crushed in a garbage truck and another falling into a manhole due to theft of manhole covers—each saw more than 25,000 views.
