
A 16-year-old boy from San Jose has been arrested in connection to a fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred in Walnut Creek, according to the Walnut Creek Police Department's social media post. The deadly incident took place under the Highway 680 overpass on the 1600 block of Newell Avenue last Saturday. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by a Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office Deputy and subsequent medical assistance, the injured juvenile succumbed to his injuries at John Muir Medical Center.
The Walnut Creek Police responded to the incident around 2:36 a.m. and found five juveniles had been riding in the vehicle before the crash. After the impact, three individuals, including the presumed driver, fled on foot from the scene quickly. The driver was later found and apprehended in San Jose, where he now faces charges of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit and run. The Walnut Creek Police Department’s Major Accident Investigations Team (MAIT) has taken over the ongoing investigation into the collision details.
An official statement from the Walnut Creek Police Department declined to release the names of the driver, victim, and other passengers, citing the involved parties' juvenile status. They urge anyone who might have witnessed the crash or possess relevant information to come forward and contact local authorities at 925-943-5844 to assist in the ongoing investigation.
