As the holiday season approaches, customers should note that the North and South Transfer Stations in Seattle will be closed on December 25, and January 1, 2025. This information was shared in a recent post on the Seattle Public Utilities.

Starting December 26 through January 31, Seattle is offering free composting for holiday trees and greens. "Customers can compost trees and holiday greens for free from December 26 – January 31! Remove all decorations, cut into sections 4-foot or less, and place trees or bundled greens next to your Food & Yard Waste cart on your regular collection day." Apartment residents can also participate, with up to two trees allowed next to each Food & Yard Waste cart at no extra charge, as stated by the Seattle Public Utilities.

You can drop off up to three Christmas trees (under 8 feet) at a Transfer Station for free. For other holiday items, use the Seattle Public Utilities Where Does It Go tool to find out how to recycle or dispose of them. This helps keep waste out of the landfill, as reported by the Seattle Public Utilities.
