Ernster, the department's Public Information Officer for nearly a decade, is stepping down – his role as a bridge between the department and the populace has been a testament to the painstaking work, dedication that comes with the badge, and a commitment to transparency. Sgt. Ernster has had a considerable presence in the media, being the go-to spokesperson on behalf of the department, and it was on the department's social media where the announcement of his retirement was made, along with a video paying tribute to his career.
