As shoppers rushed to find their last-minute holiday gifts at Clackamas Town Center yesterday, the festive bustle was disrupted by the sound of gunfire. The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed a shooting incident occurred in the south parking lot just shy of 3:00 p.m. Immediate intervention by the deputies led to the detaining of a person of interest for further questioning, as they secured the location to ensure the safety of the public.
The first responders found evidence of the crime at a section of the parking lot and transported one victim to a local hospital with injuries classified as non-life-threatening. While details remain sparse, the sheriff's office is confident that the incident was isolated, emphasizing there is no ongoing danger to the community. Despite the shooting, the mall continued to welcome visitors, working closely with the Sheriff’s Office, mall security teams, and property managers to maintain a guarded environment.
As investigations continue, detectives are reaching out to the public, soliciting any information that may shed light on the matter. This call for community assistance reflects the ongoing struggle to maintain public spaces as domains free of violence, especially during times when families and friends gather to celebrate and share in holiday cheer.
