Last Saturday morning, a house explosion in Jefferson City injured six people, three of them critically. The blast occurred at 2:44 a.m., and the cause is under investigation. Fire officials described the scene as devastating, with the home reduced to rubble, according to a statement from the Jefferson City Fire Department, as reported by Caledonian Record.

According to WDRB, the home was so severely damaged that the fire department's Special Operations Rescue Team had to navigate through the debris to reach the occupants. They worked for over three hours to extract all victims. Two of the critically injured were flown to University Hospital in Columbia, Mo., conveyed by medical helicopters.

Photos from the scene depicted one wall blown off, while the rest of the structure menacingly tilted. It's reported that 37 fire and EMS personnel, nine advanced support ambulances, one excavator, and three medical helicopters were involved in the rescue effort. Reflecting on the incident and the resources required, Jefferson City Fire Department assistant chief and spokesperson, Jake Holee, told the New York Post, "We’re real thankful we have that equipment, and we spend the time training."

Rescue operations were especially difficult due to severe structural collapse and heavy debris. The last person rescued was trapped under layers of rubble, and responders had to tunnel through to reach them.
