The season of giving isn't over in the Town of Speedway, where the local community has come together to exceed the goals set by their fourth annual Holiday Food Drive, held from November to December—this year, they managed to collect an impressive 1,925 pieces of non-perishable food and personal items for families in need, a substantial increase from the previous year's drive, the Town of Speedway reported.
Contributions poured in from residents and businesses alike, with donations being accepted at the Speedway Municipal Center while town employees augmented the community's efforts by pitching in with donations of their own and the spirit of unity and compassion that seems to be a stable characteristic of the town, which can be seen, without a shadow of doubt, in the success of this year's drive. "We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of our community," the Town Manager Grant Kleinhenz told the Town of Speedway news outlet, "This food drive not only helps our neighbors during the holiday season, but it also showcases the compassion and unity of the Town of Speedway."
The beneficiaries of this outpouring of community support included the Saint Christopher Parish Food Pantry and the Storehouse Food Pantry, operated by the Speedway Christian Church, both of which play critical roles in ensuring no resident goes hungry during the holidays—and thanks to the donations, families in need will have food and personal items, helping to relieve the stress the holiday season can often bring for those struggling to make ends meet.
"There’s no better way to celebrate the holidays than by giving back to those who need it most," Kleinhenz said, and with the holiday season well embraced by residents coming forward in the shared goal to support those in precarious situations, it's clear that the Town of Speedway not only cherishes but actively cultivates a culture of giving, as attested by Kleinhenz when he expressed his gratitude "We are humbled by the outpouring of support,' adding 'This is a true reflection of the spirit of giving that defines Speedway."
