The Springfield Police Department, alongside the FBI, are currently jointly investigating an armed robbery that transpired at the Volunteer State Bank yesterday afternoon, according to a press release. As reported by WKRN, an armed individual entered the bank just before 2 p.m., brandishing a handgun and demanding money. The suspect then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspect, who police are still working to properly identify, was caught on the bank's surveillance and has been described as an African American male with a heavier build. Law enforcement released the surveillance photos in a bid to quickly apprehend the perpetrator before they manage to possibly commit further crimes. The Smokey Barn News reported that the incident was first called into 911 at 1:59 p.m. No injuries were stated to have occurred during the robbery, though reportedly the suspect made off with more than $11,000.
Both the Springfield Police and the FBI are urging anyone with information about the suspect to come forward, offering a financial reward as motivation. "The Springfield Police Department is offering a cash reward for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect," the SPD announced in a statement obtained by WSMV. They have disseminated contact numbers for the Springfield Police Department, Central Dispatch, and the FBI's Clarksville Field Office for tips from the public.
