St. Louis residents planning to navigate the city's roadways this coming weekend will need to stay informed as several closures are set to impact travel times. Commuters traveling on Ladue Road under Interstate 270 should expect delays and detours from Friday, at 8 p.m. through next Monday, by 5 a.m., as crews work on bridge widening by placing girders on the interstate bridge above Ladue Road. According to an update by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), Interstate 270 will remain open during this time but lanes on Ladue Road will be completely closed to traffic.
Detour instructions for those affected suggest that drivers heading east of I-270 on Ladue Road use Interstate 64, exit at Ballas Road and proceed north until Ladue Road. Conversely, those traveling to locations west of I-270 should continue north on I-270, exit at Olive Boulevard (Route 340) and follow the alternative route provided. Motorists are encouraged to consult real-time traffic and weather information via MoDOT's traveler information map or Gateway Guide for updates on delays and conditions.
The weekend isn't the only time drivers in St. Louis should be wary of road conditions. Ongoing closures throughout St. Louis City include one northbound lane on I-55 from Lindbergh to north of Bayless remaining closed through the end of 2024, and in Jefferson County, southbound Route 67 at I-55 through 2024. These long-term projects are part of a series of ongoing infrastructure initiatives aimed at improving the city’s thoroughfares.
For daily commutes, additional closures are scheduled as outlined by MoDOT. This includes the closure of various lanes throughout the week on routes such as I-55, Route 61 in St. Louis County, and I-70 in St. Charles County. Traffic officials urge drivers to stay vigilant and adhere to posted signage to navigate these changes safely. Further lane closures and restrictions will be implemented including but not limited to, short duration closures for construction on several roadways from Thursday, through next Wednesday.
Updates to this schedule may occur, especially in the event of inclement weather, which can cause shifts in planned work. Residents and visitors driving in the area should keep an eye on official notices and allow for extra travel time to accommodate any unforeseen changes. All detailed information regarding specific closures and detours can be found on the MoDOT website.
