Early Sunday morning, St. Paul's Payne-Phalen neighborhood woke up to the sound of gunfire that left two people injured outside an ARCO gas station on Larpenteur Avenue East near 35E. CBS News Minnesota reports that the shootings occurred just after 7 a.m. and that St. Paul Police have arrested an employee of the gas station in connection with the incident.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered one man with a gunshot wound to his back and another person inside a vehicle a block away, also suffering from a gunshot injury. The shooting appears to have stemmed from an "altercation" that prompted the employee to discharge his weapon. This information comes from KARE 11, which noted that the two individuals were likely shot during the same incident.
Both victims were transported to Regions Hospital for treatment of their injuries, which were not expected to be life-threatening, as per CBS News Minnesota. The specifics of the altercation and the events leading up to it remain unclear as the police investigation is still underway.
