Two men are in police custody following a prompt intervention by the Stoughton Police Department after a reported threat to shoot up a home was made this past Friday. In a statement obtained by Stoughton Police Department's official website, Chief Donna McNamara detailed the arrest of Aaron Powell, 35, of Hyde Park, for possession of a firearm without a Firearm Identification Card, and Thomas Searcy, 28, of Boston, for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
Responding to the incident, which took place around 12:18 p.m. on Mayflower Lane, officers arrived to find the suspects in a vehicle outside the reported home. A routine check revealed Searcy's suspended license status, subsequently leading to his arrest. Powell, attempting to adjust his waistband, made the officers fear he was in possession of a weapon just before being ordered out of the vehicle. A loaded 9mm pistol and magazine were discovered during the encounter with Powell, who tried reaching for the firearm during a struggle with the officers., as reported by the Stoughton Police Department.
Both men are scheduled for arraignment on Monday at the Stoughton District Court. "I would like to commend the officers who responded to this dangerous situation and took two individuals into custody while seizing a firearm," said Chief McNamara in a statement praising their quick actions. "The quick response and observations made by the Stoughton Police officers at the scene may have averted a potential tragedy today," as mentioned by the Stoughton Police Department.
