
A suspect has been apprehended following a fatal shooting that occurred in the early hours in south Phoenix, according to police officials. The incident, which led to the death of 27-year-old Luis Eduardo Beltran Arteaga, unfolded near the intersection of 51st and Southern avenues at approximately 1 a.m. Arteaga, after being shot, was transported by relatives to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Police identified the suspect as 23-year-old Jose Fajardo, who was taken into custody in the vicinity following the shooting. As reported by ABC15, officers learned that earlier in the night, Fajardo had been engaged in an altercation at 47th Avenue and Van Buren Street, which escalated to him firing a handgun multiple times though, the woman he was fighting with was not injured.
The situation escalated when Fajardo later arrived at the residence near 51st and Southern avenues, forcibly entered through an exterior door, and shot Arteaga. Witnesses described Fajardo fleeing the scene on foot post the shooting. Shortly after, he was found by law enforcement and arrested.
Fajardo is currently being booked into the Maricopa County Jail, with a motive for the shooting still under investigation, 12 News reported.
