A suspect linked to a LaGrange shooting was taken into custody yesterday after a dramatic pursuit by Coweta County deputies ended in a vehicle rollover. The Coweta County Sheriff's Office executed a PIT maneuver on a Dodge Durango, amidst concerns of reckless driving and information regarding an earlier shooting incident. The aftermath of the chase revealed not just the suspect, Dequindre Langston, but also a juvenile sustaining minor injuries in the backseat, who was later transported to a hospital for care, as reported by 11Alive.
This development occurred following a law enforcement alert for an SUV connected to a shooting on Handley Street, in LaGrange. The suspect, Langston, was then spotted in a different vehicle, the aforementioned Durango. When the attempt to stop both the SUV and the Durango were made, only Langston's vehicle fled the scene, as detailed by FOX5 Atlanta. Langston's flight initiated the pursuit, and, culminating in the crash that led to his arrest and the discovery of an injured child who was previously unknown to the deputies involved.
Earlier on December 17th at about 10:16 a.m., LaGrange police had responded to reports of someone shot at 9 Handley Street. They found Cadarius McCord with a gunshot wound. A lifesaving tourniquet was applied before McCord was airlifted to an Atlanta-area hospital; his wounds were reported as non-life-threatening, despite the violent nature of the crime. The LaGrange Police Criminal Investigations Division, employing forensic technologies, swiftly identified Langston as the suspect, according to FOX5 Atlanta.
Langston, the detainee, is faced with charges from multiple prior incidents including a strong-arm robbery and aggravated assault dating back to August 27, as well as felony battery, criminal trespass, and cruelty to a child in the third degree from an incident on March 30. The authorities have not yet clarified if the outcome of this pursuit will lead to additional charges, or if the operator of the SUV initially targeted in the BOLO was apprehended.
