Early Sunday morning, a suspected drunk driver collided with an Illinois Department of Transportation minuteman truck on the Dan Ryan Expressway, as reported by WGN-TV. Illinois State Police arrived at the scene of the accident on the southbound lanes near 26th Street shortly after 3 a.m., where the IDOT vehicle was carrying out traffic management duties with emergency lights on when the rear-end collision occurred.

Remarkably, no individuals were harmed during the incident, and the driver responsible for hitting the IDOT truck was cited for driving under the influence, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, as well as for violation of Scott’s Law – commonly nicknamed the “Move Over” Law, as detailed by the WGN-TV. Details of the arrests were sparse, but the repercussions of driving while intoxicated were clear in the havoc witnessed.

In a separate but simultaneous incident on the same expressway, a chain-reaction crash involved up to 14 vehicles, further tangling traffic and nerves. CBS News Chicago recounted the experience of Myracle Brosey, a driver caught in the turmoil, "I came to a stop because the car in front of me stopped. Next thing you know, I'm getting hit from behind. This lady hits me from behind, then she hits the car in front of me also, which ends up crashing into the side of the bridge," Brosey said. For her, and likely many others, these events were described as "traumatic."
