In November in Oakland, a freeway shooting incident rattled the community and set detectives from the California Highway Patrol's (CHP) Golden Gate Division on an intensive investigation. According to a social media post by CHP - Golden Gate Division, the suspects responsible for the shooting on Interstate 580 have been apprehended.
Responding to an emergency call just past 5 p.m. on November 8, officers were dispatched to the scene where the victim, who managed to dial 9-1-1 swiftly, described being targeted after a minor collision on city streets. Persistent investigative work led the CHP's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) to zero in on Kevin Edgar Martinez Hernandez, 25, and Ruben Martinez Hernandez, 22, pinning them as the primary suspects. Detectives utilized Flock Safety cameras not just to get a beat on the suspect vehicle but to eventually lace together the locations and actions of the Oakland residents involved.
Last Monday, CHP officers, bolstered by the SIU and the K9 Unit, moved to encapsulate Kevin and Ruben Hernandez. The suspects were cornered on Claremont Avenue near Grizzly Peak Boulevard in the very vehicle linked to the shooting. Upon arrest, officers discovered and seized a loaded firearm inside the vehicle. Following their arrest, the two were booked into the Alameda County Jail.
