A Suwanee man, 54-year-old Aaron Edmond Hayes, has admitted to running a fraudulent scheme through his company, Wheels N Recovery, by promising recovering addicts vehicles and failing to deliver them after payment. According to a report by FOX 5 Atlanta, Hayes pleaded guilty to charges under the RICO Act, having defrauded nearly two dozen victims of more than $76,827.
In his confession last Friday, Hayes agreed to serve one year in prison, followed by two years of work release, and to also repay the entire sum he swindled from his victims. Gwinnett County District Attorney Patsy Austin Gatson expressed satisfaction with the court's decision. "This is a good resolution that gives the people back the money that this defendant took," Gatson stated, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta. "He took advantage of people who were vulnerable, and this order holds him fully accountable."
District Attorney Patsy Austin Gatson further emphasized the severity of Hayes' exploitation to Atlanta News First, noting how he cynically promised to aid his victims, many of whom resided in Suwanee, in their recovery journey by providing them with affordable used cars. Instead, Hayes perpetrated his scam to illicitly enrich himself at their expense.
While reflecting on the plea agreement's terms and Hayes' forthcoming incarceration and work release, Gatson told FOX 5 Atlanta, "This outcome ensures that justice is served, and the victims can begin to recover from the harm caused by Mr. Hayes."
