A Dollar General store in Sweetwater was intentionally set on fire. Employee Andrew Helton was arrested last Saturday for his involvement in the incident, according to the WBIR report.
Sweetwater police and fire rescue teams responded to an alarm at the North Main Street store and found smoke coming from the building, as detailed in a report by WIVK.
Helton, identified as a suspect, was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated arson after reportedly confessing to the fire. He is now in custody awaiting further legal action, as mentioned in a WATE report.
Multiple fire departments worked together to quickly control the fire. The Sweetwater Police Department thanked Sweetwater Fire Rescue and other agencies, including the Madisonville, Tri-Co, Christianburg, Notchey Creek, and Hopewell Fire Departments, Monroe County EMS, Monroe County Dispatch, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Bomb & Arson Division, for their help.
