Tahnicia Phillips has officially been sworn in as the new Clerk of State Court for Cobb County, marking a significant milestone in a career deeply rooted in the local judicial system. The ceremony was held in a courtroom brimming with attendees in Marietta, where Chief Magistrate Judge Brendan Murphy led Phillips in taking the oath of office. Her rise to this position comes after more than two decades of dedicated service, initially joining as a part-time Magistrate Clerk and eventually ascending to the role of Court Administrator of the Magistrate Court.
The occasion also saw the swearing-in of Alisha Hargett, who will serve as the Deputy Clerk of the State Court of Cobb County. Phillips, eager to fully embrace her new responsibilities and to steadily further the progress of the court system, expressed her aspirations for the role. "I hope this moment serves as a beacon of possibilities, proving that with faith, perseverance, and the support of the community there is no limit to what we can achieve," she told the audience during the ceremony, as per Cobb County website.
Born and raised in Marietta, Phillips is not only recognized for her extensive professional experience but is also a notable alumna of Marietta High School, Clark Atlanta University, and Keller Graduate School of Management. Her academic credentials are further complemented by her completion of the Cobb County/University of Georgia EXCEL program, a leadership development course designed to prime candidates to effectively manage and lead, a skill set that Phillips is set to apply in her latest role within the court system.
Apart from her judicial career, Phillips has dedicated herself to philanthropic efforts, most notably as the co-founder and executive director of the Leonard Phillips Foundation, Inc. This non-profit organization bears a personal significance to Phillips, paying homage to her late father's memory by extending financial support to injured motorcyclists. Her father's untimely death at the hands of a hit-and-run driver instilled a resolve in Phillips to tirelessly work towards providing aid to those affected by similar tragedies, a testament to the compassion that also pervades her professional ethos.
